Company History

Action Outdoor was first formed in 1992 between partners Jack Hartrampf and Larry McCurdy. Both Jack and Larry were real estate brokers with Metro Brokers and through their expertise in dealing with commercial properties, they not only met each other and worked on various projects together, they became indirectly familiar with billboard locations and soon thereafter became intrigued with the potential and growth of the outdoor advertising industry.

Building their own signs became time-consuming, but by their own choosing, the more inventory they assembled the more their careers as real estate brokers took a back seat to expanding their billboard holdings. Through new leases and several acquisitions, Action Outdoor was soon operating, not only in Georgia, but also in Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. During several of these acquisitions a close association was formed with Steve Galberaith, a former employee of the largest outdoor advertising company in North America, Foster & Kleiser.

During early 1990, Steve had resigned from Foster & Kleiser, after 18 years of service, and had relocated his family back to the Atlanta area. Steve formed Galberaith & Associates and he and his wife, Leslie, began leasing and developing billboard locations in Atlanta and the surrounding area. Some of that "surrounding area" included the same markets Jack and Larry were pursuing, and soon an association took place and the 3 individuals began conducting arms-length transactions.

In 1998, Jack, Larry and Steve decided to join forces and kept Action Outdoor Advertising as their flagship business. This association led to the expansion of inventory in existing markets, new development, and the assemblage of locations in the panhandle of Florida. Subsequently, some of Action Outdoor's sign locations were sold to major companies in the outdoor advertising industry, including Eller Media (now known as Clear Channel), The Lamar Company, Renfroe Outdoor Advertising, and most recently, Olympus Media Group.
True to the Atlanta area, however, Action Outdoor retained the majority of its Atlanta holdings and has recently completed a major expansion, particularly in the highly desirable Northeast and East portions of the Market. Outstanding locations have just been built on the Upper Perimeter (I-285), I-85, I-20 and Peachtree Industrial Blvd., including several LED locations that have quickly become the most desirable digital locations in Atlanta. We are proud to have the opportunity to present this outstanding inventory to you, our customer, for your Out-Of-Home marketing mix.
